How to get there?

Krems is situated on the banks of the Danube in Lower Austria. It is approximately 80 kilometers far from Vienna. You can reach Krems by car using the highway and the motorway and also by train.

By car

From Vienna

  • From Vienna Airport on the expressway A4 (Ostautobahn) to Vienna, at the junction "Prater" take the exit to "Praha - A22", go further on the expressway A22 (Donauuferautobahn) to Stockerau, take the exit "Krems/St.Pölten/Tulln" and further on the S5 to Krems (100 km)
  • From the city or north of Vienna enter the expressway A22 to Stockerau and  and then use the highway S5 to Krems as described above (80 km)
  • From the west or south of Vienna take the expressway A1 (Westautobahn) to St. Pölten, then expressway S33 (Kremser Schnellstrasse) to Krems. Take exit "Melk - Krems Zentrum - Wachau" and turn right onto B3 in the direction direction of Melk - Spitz - Wachau (100 km)

In Krems, follow the B3 in the direction of Melk - Spitz - Wachau. At the fork take the left-hand lane towards Stein - Spitz - Wachau. At the two roundabouts follow the green signs for "campus krems".

From Linz

  • expressway A1 (Westautobahn) to St. Pölten, then S33 (Kremser Schnellstrasse) in the direction of Krems. Take the exit "Melk - Krems Zentrum - Wachau" and turn right onto B3 in the direction direction of Melk - Spitz - Wachau. Follow the B3 in the direction of Melk - Spitz - Wachau. At the fork take the left-hand lane towards Stein - Spitz - Wachau and follow the green signs for "campus krems". (160 km)
  • expressway A1 (Westautobahn) to Melk, then B3 Donau-Bundesstrasse) in the direction of Krems. From Emmersdorf on, follow the green signs "campus krems". This route is longer but the scenery in this area - the Danube valley Wachau - is particularly delightful.

By train

From Vienna

  • trains hourly from Wien Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof, stop in Wien-Spittelau (you can change there from the underground lines U4 and U6), Wien-Heiligenstadt (you can change from U4 and S45), Tulln, Absdorf-Hippersdorf, Kirchberg am Wagram and Hadersdorf am Kamp (about 1 hour with the fastest train)
  • trains from Wien-Nord (Praterstern) stop in Floridsdorf, Korneuburg, Stockerau, Absdorf-Hippersdorf (approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes)

From St. Pölten

  • fast stopping trains from St. Pölten, stop in Herzogenburg, Statzendorf, Paudorf, Furth-Palt (30 to 45 minutes)

Connection railway station Krems - Danube University Krems

  • Busses from railway station Krems (Bahnhof Krems) to Campus Krems and return go regularily. There is also a Shuttle Bus that goes direct from the train station to the main entrance of Danube University Krems. (5 minutes).
